Travel to Geiranger
Everyone who wants to visit Geiranger wants to know how to get there. Well, since Geiranger lies hidden deep within a fjord, it is not always easy. Driving a vehicle is the best option to get to Geiranger. It gives you the freedom to explore. You can, however, rent electric scooters and cars in Geiranger to get around to see the typical tourist views like Dalsnibba, Flydalssjuvel, and Ørnesvingen.
Here are some of the ways to get to Geiranger, as far as I know.
- By car
Cars can be rented both in Geiranger and at local arrival spots, such as cities like Ålesund, the Vigra airport, or as far away as Oslo. - By bus
Buses come from 2 directions. From over the Strynefjellet mountain plateau or north from Eidsdal there you need to take a ferry over the fjord of XXX to get there. - By ferry
You can ride the ferry from Hellesylt or even from Valldal. - By boat
A boat service from Fjord Cruise departs Ålesund City to Geiranger during the summer months. - By ship
The Hurtigruten (Coastal Express) has from June to August a stop at Geiranger on the northbound route. You can get on or off the ship while it is at Geiranger.
Hurtigruten arrives at Ålesund at 09:45 and departs at 10:00.
Hurtigruten arrives at Geiranger at 14:25 and departs at 14:45.
Hurtigruten arrives at Ålesund again at 19:00 and departs at 20:00. - By train
It is not possible to travel to Geiranger by train; you need to travel to Otta or Åndalsnes and then find a car or bus that can bring you to Geiranger.
